Hook Runners Newsletter 28.01.19

The 2019 Hook Runners Annual Awards Evening will take place on 9 March at Hook Community Centre.  The same awards are up for grabs as last year, but for the “members’ choice” awards we are going to do a two stage voting process.  From now until midday on Wednesday 6 February nominations are open for the following awards:

  • Member of the Year
  • Most Memorable Run
  • Best Hooker on Tour
  • Chattiest Runner
  • Best Supporter
  • Most Social Runner

The Committee will then select the top three nominated runners for each award, then voting will open for you to choose which of the three you think should win.

The other awards (which are based on figures or chosen by the coaches) are:

  • Most Improved Handicap (male and female)
  • Fastest Handicap (male and female)
  • Most Improved ABCer (male and female)
  • Best Cross Country Scorer (male and female)
  • Coaches’ Award

Please submit your nominations here and don’t forget to buy your tickets!

Club training sessions this week:

With it being dark on all training nights, we expect as a MINIMUM light colours to be worn but preferably some form of Hi-Viz and/or reflective clothing.

Monday 7pm with Lucy – week four of the ten week ABC course.  Recent graduates and other members are welcome to attend and support.

Tuesday 8.45am with Penny or 7.30pm with Mike (tbc) – Short Hills – Excellent for working up leg strength and improving core stability. These are shorter, sharper uphill runs (time based, likely to be 10x60seconds) so it’s the same duration of work for everyone. Slow jog back down as recovery.

Wednesday 8pm with Terry – Marathon Group session but suitable for all. This week is a ‘pure speed’ session of 150m faster bursts in a steady run.

Thursday 7pm with – February handicap (yes a week early!) at the Raven. If you haven’t got a start time, please contact Tim.  If you’re able to assist on the night, we’d appreciate your help!

Saturday 9am – Basingstoke parkrun (War Memorial Park)

Sunday 8am – Group runs

Each session starts at HCC (except for parkrun and handicap) and is suitable for ALL abilities, but don’t do harder sessions on consecutive days. If you have any questions or concerns about these sessions please ask.
