The Hook Runners handicap

The first Thursday of each month at 7pm

On the first Thursday of each month, in place of of our regular training session, we meet at the Raven Hotel in Station Road, Hook for a 6km timed run which consists of two laps around the centre of the village, known as the Tesco loop. This is great fun and suitable for runners of all abilities as the handicap creates a level playing field where slower runners start first with faster runners starting later using their recent 5km time as a measure. Newer runners can just do a single loop if they want to and everyone cheers other runners across the line!

Please arrive in plenty of time for a prompt 7pm start and afterwards, why not join us in the pub for a well deserved pint?

Please note:

  • Headphones are not allowed;

  • Only times recorded during the actual session will be included in the results;

  • Between October and March, hi vis garments or a headtorch must be worn or you will not be allowed to run;

  • If you do not take part in the handicap for 12 consecutive months, your handicap will be removed and you will need to come back as a newcomer;

  • There are prizes for the most improved handicap each year, to be eligible you must have participated in at least 4 handicaps in the calendar year (and no sandbagging!);

  • The Coach’s decision is final!

Summer Handicap

During the summer months of June, July and August the start/finish moves to outside the Coach & Horses pub in The Street, Rotherwick and is usually moved to the 2nd Thursday to avoid clashing with the very popular Yateley 10K races. This course is a trail run held entirely off-road and is a great social event with the club often providing free pizza to participants after the race is concluded.
